It turns out that the connector for the new hard drive on the Xbox 360 slim model is a standard SATA data and power port. I feel like this has to be at least somewhat intentional, although maybe Microsoft was just that desperate to save space in the new model.
What this means is that if you get a hold of an old Xbox 360 hard drive, you can actually take the hard drive out of its enclosure and connect it to the new Xbox 360 slim.

Xbox 360 Slim (obviously)
Torx 6 and Torx 10
Xbox 360 HDD (SATA)
Flathead Screwdriver (for removal of HDD slot)
Step 1:
Disassemble Xbox 360 HDD, and get to the SATA HDD that lies within. If you do not know how, you can find a tutorial HERE
Step 2:
Remove the cover of the Xbox 360 Slim HDD cover. I'm pretty sure it just slides off, but you may use a flathead screwdriver.
Step 3:
Insert your HDD from "Step 1" into the slot in "Step 2." You need to have the top of the HDD facing the top of the Xbox 360 Slim. Be sure to slide in, and holding it with your fingers to as low as you can go. This may damage the slot if you dropped from too high.
Try and get as close as you can to the bottom of the slot.
Step 4:
Push the HDD in gently without putting too much force to break anything. If you were to damage this, you may not be able to use an Xbox HDD of any kind. You may be able to get a replacement though if anything unexpected, and bad happens. The HDD will be a little wobbly, just make sure it doesn't move too much to slip out.
Step 5:
Pretty obvious, but put the HDD case slider back on.
NOTE** YOU CAN NOW BUY CASES WHICH SLIDE STRIGHT INTO THE 360 SLIM, THEY HOLD THE HDD IN TIGHT.
